I thoroughly enjoyed this activity. A good exploration of different techniques, but not too much to cause any stress. I would say for each different example I tried two maybe three different setups, and probably took about 5 photos each to make sure I got a good one. It was a bit clunky to work with specific requirements on a non-SLR camera, but after getting used to it, not a big deal.

I think the most important part is the lighting. If you have good lighting, I’d say thats like more than half the battle. Always a pain to try and get a good shot with low light. It also matter quite a bit where you position yourself in conjunction with the light source; trying to get rid of unwanted shadows or glares. A small step to the left can make a big difference.
